GOURITSMOND

Gouritsmond is a quiet seaside village situated at the mouth of the Gourits River in the Western Cape. The Gourits River is the principal river in the Southern Cape. It is centrally situated between Cape Town and Knysna, making it an ideal base from which to visit many of the popular tourist attractions in the area. This small fishing village is situated on an a farm previously called "The Fisheries". It is well known for its ragged, rocky coastline and rough seas. The name “Gourits” comes from the Gouriqua Khoikhoi people that lived in the area.

The beach is ideal for swimming, surfing, sun bathing or just strolling to the river mouth. A few things of interest to look out for are the fynbos, kiewiete (Cape plover) and the endangered black oyster catcher. For those who enjoy a good hike, there is a unique coastal walking trail from Mossel Bay (through Gourits) to Rein's Nature Reserve.

Fishing in the area is very good and fish are abundant here, especially Kabeljou, making it the most popular activity among holiday makers that visit the village. Along this rugged coastline there are numerous spots ideal for shore angling, snorkel diving and spear fishing.

At the Gourits Rivier Mouth there is a caravan park with camping sites, as well as a hotel. Other accommodation available includes Self Catering Cottages, Houses and Bungalows to rent. In the village there is a supermarket, restaurant, pizza den, library, church, ATM, laundry, medical services, petrol station, etc. For the more avid shopper, seeking shopping malls and retail stores, Mossel Bay is just 45km away!

It has a moderate climate with mostly warm, sunny days all year round
