“If you can spend a perfectly useless afternoon in a perfectly useless manner, you have learned how to live.” Lin Yutang (1895 – 1976)Situated 18km East of the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay, Hog Hollow Country Lodge, a private nature reserve, is set on the edge of indigenous forest with breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and Tsitsikamma Mountains. We are well known for our delectable food, personalized accommodation, panoramic views and sincere hospitality. The sixteen individual suites are situated in lush gardens surrounding the main house. Each room is decorated in a uniquely African-style, using earthy colours, naturally woven fabrics, artifacts from around Africa & local handcrafted woods. These comfortable, stylish suites offer private wooden decks, hammocks – perfect to while away those balmy sunny days - king sized beds, lounge area, en-suite bathrooms and most have cosy fireplaces for those chilly winter nights. Superb breakfasts are served out on the boma deck in the warmth of the morning sunshine, or inside by the fire on chillier days, while our scrumptious communal dinners are served in the conviviality of the candle-lit main house. Hog Hollow’s main emphasis is to employ people from the surrounding communities to work and grow in the diverse world of the hospitality industry. On the 14th of July 2005 we became the 13th property in South Africa to become Fair Trade in Tourism accredited. FTTSA encourages and publicises fair and responsible business practices through its independent & highly recognizable trademark symbol of fairness in the tourism industry. Mindful of our “footprint” on our planet, since our inception we have been working hard to minimize its effect by implementing various energy efficient and environmental programmes at the lodge. On 10 May 2008, we received the Wilderness Foundation Green Leaf accreditation. We were one of the first six properties in South Africa to be accredited by the Foundation whose entry mark is a minimum of 75%. Attractions nearby range from: lazing at our long blue pool, or taking a refreshing sauna, to a magnificent walk from the Lodge through the ancient indigenous forests to either to Monkeyland primate sanctuary, the Birds of Eden or the Elephant Sanctuary. Other attractions include over 50 charted walks, horse riding, golf, canoeing, abseiling, bungy jumping (the world’s highest -216m!!), boat-based whale and dolphin watching, a treetops canopy walk or a scenic glider flight around the bay. The list is endless ...
