NATURES VALLEY
Natures Valley lies 29 kilometres from Plettenberg Bay, on the way to Port Elizabeth in the Garden Route. Flanked by an escarpment on one side and the Indian ocean on the other side, it forms part of the Tsitsikamma National Park. This small village is situated at the mouth of the Groot River at the bottom of the Groot River pass alongside the Groot River estuary. The Kouga, Kammanassie and "Groot Swart" mountain ranges stand guard over the valley. Natures Valley forms part of the Tsitsikamma De Vasselot nature reserves. It is unique in that it is the only residential area within a South African National Park. It lies nestled in the Tsitsikamma National Park coastal forest. Wildlife such as Southern Cape Bushbuck, Bush pigs, and many varieties of wild birds are frequently seen in the gardens of this village. Natures Valley has managed to remain relatively ‘undiscovered’. It is a little hamlet of 50 houses, which are permanently occupied by the residents, who have managed to minimise any development that might spoil the area. Nature’s Valley has only one shop, no banks, and definitely no shopping malls! For the adventurous, there are many scenic walks and hikes in the area which will take you through rainforest and along cliffs. Visitors can also go canoeing down the river or simply sit and enjoy the beauty of this magnificent part of our country. The Bloukrans bridge, which boasts the highest bungee jump in the world, is about 20km away and another 10 km on will take you to the Storms River where the famous Otter trail starts. The Otter trail, one of South Africa’s flagship hikes that navigates 42 kilometres of craggy coastline from Storms River, ends here in this quaint town. After hiking the Otter Trail, most hikers seek accommodation in the town. Accommodation offered includes self-catering units and bed and breakfast Natures Valley Tourism Info Tel: +27 (0)44 533 4065 Fax: +27 (0)44 533 4066 e-mail: info@plettenbergbay.co.za
