PARAGLIDING - THE GARDEN ROUTE
The Garden Route is very popular for paragliding it has good laminar winds from the sea from October through to March. A number of sites are within an hours drive so there is a good choice. The Garden Route has kilometers of sites above the beach so when you fly you can see whales and dolphins, play on the sand dunes with your glider, and if the weather is not good for flying there are plenty of other exciting things to do, like game farms, canoeing, mountain biking, horse riding, caving etc etc. There is a great selection of places to stay in the Garden Route from self catering, back packers, B and B’s to the very luxurious, so all are catered for. Please remember with all sites we are very lucky to have been given permission to use them from the land owners and therefore we ask that you treat all sites with respect. If you have never been to a site before please find a local and ask them the rules, and also read all the requirements on the site boards. Most of the sites are close or in airspace so please make sure you know the restrictions that are applicable to us. All pilots must be a member of SAHPA, whether permanent or a foreign temporary member, and will be required to prove current membership. All our sites in the Garden Route (apart from Gerrikes Point) are free and no fees are required. Best time of year is usually October - April for flying. With constant wind patterns and low rainfall, the Garden Route is a reliable free flying region. Some of the sites include :
