Located on the foothills of the Outeniqua Mountains, at “The Mill” in The Crags on the road to Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, you will find Porcupine Ceramics. A studio that handcrafts with African creativity, ceramic décor and functional art pieces of superior quality and collectability. A team of gifted craftsmen and woman create each piece with dedicated attention to detail and finish, each artisan’s expertise fulfilling a roll in the production process. Porcupine which was establish in 1994, produces ceramics with a very distinctive and sophisticated visual style and uses the Raku firing technique to further enhance the feel of Africa with the surfaces of the ceramics being blackened and crackled by fire. In 2005 the ceramic range was extended to include hand crafted basins which are stoneware fired. The basins are hand built using the drape mould method, superbly hand painted, and provide an exciting alternative to the standard “white” sanitary ware.
