Dating back to 1853, SCHOONE OORDT is a voluptuous Victorian homestead that rests elegantly on a rise behind a small park at the junction of Swellengrebel and Voortrek Streets, the major arteries running through the beautifully positioned Overberg town of Swellendam.

Amidst fragrant gardens and around burbling fountains are 8 Luxury Suites that have their own patios, exquisite bathrooms, tea/coffee facilities, satellite TV, DVD players and air-conditioning. Custom made linen, goose-down bedding, pure wool carpets, open hearth and under-floor heating and heated towel rails in the bathrooms all add to the luxury. Whilst the Suites retain the Victorian feel of the main house, they are uncluttered and exude luxurious style and elegance.

The Honeymoon Suite is private and tucked away on the edge of a lush, shady little forest with the Koornlands River gurgling along its perimeter. Whilst it has all the delights of the Luxury Suites, the Honeymoon Suite is unashamedly romantic with its large hearth, exquisitely carved four-poster bed and oversized bathroom.

A large salt-water pool is surrounded by comfortable loungers – perfect for sun worshippers or a nap in the shade of an umbrella.

Breakfasts are extensive, delicious and served in the newly added light and sunny conservatory overlooking the lawn and gardens. Lunches and Dinners are by arrangement only.

The owners have years of experience in event co-ordination, and the grounds have been designed with a view to hosting functions such as weddings, parties and team-building weekends. The conservatory seats 60 and the grand banquet room inside the house, 20 guests for a more intimate meal.
