VLEESBAAI
The small coastal village of Vleesbaai lies virtually hidden between the bays of Stilbaai and Mossel Bay, just north of where the Gouritz River (of bungee jump fame from the Gourtitz River bridge, 65 metres up) joins the sea at the western end of the Garden Route. It can be reached by paved road about thirty five kilometers from Mossel Bay. Travelling from Mossel Bay to Cape Town along the N2 main route the turn off to the left for Vleesbaai can be found after passing the Petro SA plant on the right. After another sixteen km’s the second turn off for Vleesbaai will be found to the left. The entrance to Vleesbaai is four km’s along this road. Vleesbaai is an idyllic, shell sampling, sun-drenched, beach-filled holiday town in which endless beaches, safe swimming, leisurely walks, dolphin and whale spotting and the nearby Fransmans Hoek Nature Reserve all vie for attention. Vleesbaai is known by surfers as one of the best kept secrets on the coast and, whilst gentle swells provide great body boarding times, waves can reach five feet. A fishing paradise for rock and surf fisherman and a well known 4x4 route over the dunes. The weather is very moderate and therefore a visit to Vleesbaai can be very pleasant throughout the year. The very well known Southern Right Whales with their calves are regular visitors to our bay from June/July to October/November each year and can be seen from most of the houses with or without a pair of binoculars. Shoals of dolphins are regularly hunting in the bay or surfing the waves for fun. A shop in town stocks daily necessities, from bread and milk to petrol and is within walking distance from all the houses. For the adventurer there are many tourist attractions within a radius of 3 to 100km like Fransmanshoek, Stilbaai, Reins Nature- and Game Reserve with Restaurant, The Poort Wine Cellars, Ostrich and Crocodile farms, Knysna, George with world standard golf courses like Fancourt and others, Aloe factories at Albertinia, Bungi-jumping on the Gourits bridge and much more!The nearest airport is George, sixty five km’s away along the N2 main route towards Wilderness, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Port Elizabeth. Vleesbaai is characterised by a rocky coast line towards Fransmanshoek and open sand beach towards Boggomsbaai, Springerbaai and Mossel Bay. It is well protected against reigning winds.
